Sunday 22 October 2017

Today I sat down and re-visited my poems. Made a few changes. Enjoyed seeing those gorgeous views again. What a great year it was living at Drew Harbour (2013-14)!

Explosion

On a dark, stormy day
mayhem and disorder
rain down hard

life spins
haphazardly

  I look on
fascinated to witness
the explosion

when suddenly the sun appears
dancing with rainfall
in perfect time

    More with Less

I strive to express
more with less
as I sweep through phrases
scything and winnowing

observing life organically
separating grains of truth

switching metaphors
chipping at excess

excising a dry-stone wall
of solid words
to intersect and enfold
fields of imagining

Hyacinth

Scent of hyacinth
returns the heart to
lightness

childhood memories
reassemble
revealing dark cupboards

doors flung open
with excited laughter
hungry for the surprise

pale green leaves and buds
priceless jewels
perfection on a single stem

                Ta-da!

A crimson stain
below the cloud

bleeds sunlight
into the day

and in a minute
will be gone

in its place
a rosy glow

to mollycoddle
our bleary eyes

Walk on Water

Dreams walk on water
travellers in time
and space

reflections of myself
spiralling onwards
lost in the silence

floating with clouds
diving with otters

dreams of dreams
of dreams
