Walk on Water

Dreams walk on water
travellers in time
and space

reflections of myself
spiralling onwards
lost in the silence

floating with clouds
diving with otters

dreams of dreams
of dreams

Balm

Cup of tea
balm for cares
deep and blue
calved of clay

comfort's brew
steaming
mellow
warms the belly

casts a spell
still and calm

Hollowed

Night becomes day
hollowed from one light
as clouds turn inside out
and morning is etched
across the sky

Fuel

A simple meal
fuel for the body
food for the soul
roots us in place

vegetables from this soil
fruit from this tree
water from this well

the way it unfolded
age over age
stored in the wisdom
of our bones

          White

Winter stops by
like a cold handshake
icicle fingers
and piercing eyes
sending small creatures
scurrying for shelter
as frigid Earth reclines
boasting sub-zero bling

invading frost
steals warmth
from forest dwellers
two legged, four legged
hopelessly homeless
in sparkling white

         Time Change

Every year
the clocks fall back
and it is time
for change

comfortable sweaters
mismatched gloves
cozy slippers
woolly socks
warm winter boots

the geese fly south
storms roll in
squirrels fill their larders
and sun disappears
for days on end

books are stacked
candles lit
wood chopped
foreseeing dark nights to come

and the dog curls up
by the fire
preparing to sleep
until spring
